Georgia leaders and delegates spent the third day of the Democratic National Convention rallied around one of their own – acclaimed civil rights activist Rep. John Lewis (D-GA). Lewis addressed his home state delegation Wednesday morning and expressed excitement about Hillary Clinton’s official nomination for president.

Hillary Clinton’s official nomination for president by the Democratic Party marked a historic day for the country. But some Georgia delegates at the National Democratic Convention had mixed feelings about the nominee. Macon resident Fred Swann, chairman of the 8th Congressional District for Georgia’s Democratic, described how it felt to be on the floor after Clinton received enough votes Tuesday to be named the Democratic candidate.

Georgians address Democrats on second day of convention

Georgia native Addisu Demissie was the first speaker on the second day of the Democratic National Convention, as enthusiasm remained high among Peach State delegates. “We are here now a unified party, we are going to move this party forward to November, and Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine are going to be in the White House,” said Demissie, a senior staff member for Hillary For America.

Georgia delegates got up early Monday morning to rally for the Democratic Party. At 7:30 a.m., Democratic Party of Georgia Chairman DuBose Porter and other delegates began to fill the room. Porter said he was ready for an exciting week at the convention.
